the rants of agony.

both my upper and lower gums are swollen. can't eat, drink, talk, smile or make stupid faces much. sigh.

the answer to isolation.

3rd March 2009: my JPJ driving test. for some reason, i felt well prepared and i don't seem nervous at all. i was like 'just get it over and done with, i don't have all day.' woke up early at 6 am, bathed, breakfast, blah blah blah before leaving for the agency at 7. met adam jo there and thanks to him, waiting for an hour for students to come wasn't much of a problem. i didn't realize that waiting is gonna be a BIG part of what i was about to go through.

left the agency at 8.30. getting to the test area in gombak took a really long time and it was seriously boring. waited at the damansara outlet for more students and even that took another hour. thank god for my handphone music player. reached gombak at say, 10 am. sigh.
time time time.

the place was crowded like a carnival in a kampung area. i guess i wasn't the only one eager to get his license. my code was kuning 037 and got it before my road test. while waiting, i looked around and spotted people taking the road test with jpj officers sitting next to them. i can tell they weren't there to make your day better, they seem creepy. i don't even remember my test route.

then came my turn. the moment i got into the car, i knew directly my jpj examiner wasn't friendly at all. he didn't reply my good morning. ah well. like i came there to make friends anyway. did all my primary procedures and everything went nicely. i didn't have much problems on the road. the only problem turned out to be my examiner.

'WOIII! sape suruh belok kiri, pigi straight la! nak pusing satu round lagi ke?!'

'ikut lane nih, ikut! IKUT! IKUUUTTT! HADOIII!'

'jangan tukar gear lagi! haih...kenapa la tak nak dengar ckp orang...'

'EH! EH! apa kau buat nih?! HAIHHHH!'

'pusing stereng cepat sikit! CEPAT! EEEEE!'

'pergi laju sikit! laju lagi! allah...ko tak makan nasi ke?!'

'YA ALLAH YA TUHANKU...!!'

...yeah sure. the rants from a dude in a blue uniform. i just kept quiet listening to him, i was too busy focusing on the road instead of that boombox of a mouth. in my opinion, i thought i did okay and i don't believe i did anything incompetent or dangerous other than driving through my perspective of caution. it's not like i was zig-zagging cars against traffic direction at gear 5. i don't understand why he yelled like that. i seriously though he was gonna fail me seeing how much spit was flying from his mouth...

...but he didn't. he DIDN'T. he gave me an 18/20. err...okay, that's more than i can ask for. thanks anyway. i passed my road! one step closer to getting that license.

now that road's done, i had to proceed immediately to slope, parking and three point turn. everything went smooth and nicely, alhamdullillah. passed everything. i'm definitely getting my license now. :)

now the worst part: waiting. i swear, the test itself for me wasn't half as long as the time we waited for the students to finish, for the guy to come and pick us up, and for us to get back home. dah la my phone habis battery. ah well. at least it was worth it, i'm happy. P, here i come. :D

note: i have never seen THAT many kancils in my life before!

the arrival of supremacy.

sorry i haven’t been updating in while. had a lot of busy busy stuff going on, was sick for a pretty long time and i didn’t have time to deal with poor bloggy. but that doesn’t mean i’ve abandoned it, you know i love you bloggy. haha. :p

anyway, let’s get started with what i was supposed to update a month ago. (yes, i have procrastinated like a motherfucker). 8th february 2009 was the day that aussie metalcore band Parkway Drive came and played a live show in KL for their horizons sea tour. when i first heard about them coming, i was like ‘don’t bullshit! seriously, parkway drive? love them, man!” yeah, i’ve been listening to their new album Horizons and it really got me into them. and seeing them live? sure, definitely. no way i’m missing them like how I did Bleeding Through and Caliban.

getting the ticket was harder than coming to the gig itself. lucky i had a friend of mine buy it for me, because i really didn’t have the time to ktm my ass to Pertama Complex for a tiny piece of paper with the Parkway Drive logo on it. it came with a good price, lucky me. at least thats settled.

gig day. i met armand, afiq and kamal at the station and we took off to kl sentral before taking the monorail to the MCPA Assembly Hall. i didn’t expect a monster band like Parkway Drive to actually play in a fancy place like that. came early and met zack, bashar, zamir, anir, ashwin, samuel, nelson, terence, mas, ian, one whole mosh crew. lol. all waiting to enter. the place was crowded with guys, most of them wearing band t-shirts, here and there. i was wearing a Lamb of God t-shirt myself, glad to be a part of them, haha. nasib baik dapat jugak beli t-shirt. :)

here’s the setlist in sequence:

Dead Eyes Glow
Black Territory
Kids on the Move
Incarnation
Asthalin
Cassandra
Deadscore
Dashown
Parkway Drive

the ones that aren’t marked bold are the bands that i didn’t go to. the bands before them took a lot of energy and i had to simply go outside and recharge. unless you have an outlandish amount of stamina and pure love for the band that you’re looking forward to see, the need to go outside and rest is really hard to avoid. review time.

Dead Eyes Glow – really brutal deathcore band. take them like a Malaysian version of Bring Me The Horizon. the vocalist had monster growls and for some reason, he really resembles Oliver Sykes. their set was really energetic and we were already going crazy. really good for the first gig in line.

Black Territory – another powerful performance. they’re more to a thrash band rather than deathcore, and they were much bigger. armand started two moshpits here and it was insane. that’s where the stage diving and crowd surfing started. (one topless guy stage dived foot first on my face, and it was my second day with braces so you could say the impact was gila toot) after the set, we were already damn tired so we all like, decided to save energy for the good bands and of course, the band we paid for.

Incarnation – i heard they were really good, so i made a note not to miss this one. and what i heard was absolutely right – these guys were killer. brutal set and brutal crowd. armand and i went crowd surfing and it was fucking fun. my wallet came out though, lucky i snatched it back before some greedy asswipe does. look from above and you’ll see an entire crowd running in circles. best gig so far, and it took up the most energy. i had to miss Asthalin and Cassandra by waiting at the lonely mamak store outside.

intermission time. while waiting, we came across the bassist and guitarists from Parkway Drive. AHH! nervous sial.

Deadscore – this set was good. really catchy. the drummer was good though. i got knocked by a hardcore dancer on the leg and it wasn’t pretty.

Dashown – something wasn’t right about this set today. they said the vocalist was not around, so the guitar player had to scream for him. he was okay, despite the funny expression when singing. we were waiting at the back, my neck was sore from excess headbanging and i just gotta conserve energy for the headlining event.

Parkway Drive – finally. the moment we’ve been waiting for. we’ve been storing stamina for this one. unfortunately, something went wrong with the amp, and they took nearly an hour to replace it. the placed was saturated with people and they were screaming why it was taking so long. cursing, shouting and yelling, you name it. it was the worst part of the event, to be honest. imagine standing in a warm and stuffy environment between a herd of sweaty people for an hour plus. it took up a lot of endurance and really weakened most of us. sigh. i’m surprised i even managed to wait that long. when it was finally fixed, we were cheering like a bunch of island-stranded refugees who saw a boat. salvation, bebehh. they started with boneyards, their newest single. fuck man, i swear it was epic. wall of deaths from all sides. then came songs, like carrion, idols and anchors, others more. i managed to walk my way up on stage and there i was looking at the members from up close. i noticed that the members from parkway drive are really well-built and much bigger than the members from local bands. and their drummer is gooood. *i stood inches away from a topless Winston McCall!* beautiful performance, worth sweating gallons for. despite the fact we were fucking exhausted during their gig due to waiting so long, we had fun. it was hard to mosh or headbang though, it was just too packed. got a lot of encores. here are some pictures, not so clear though.

we came out and it was already 8 pm plus. took the monorail/train back to subang and crashed at armand’s place. our necks, his body and my leg was effing sore, but it was worth it.

next morning was not pretty. got even more sore than the gig day and took an hour just to get up. haha.

overall, it wasn’t bad. i had one hell of a time, despite the fact my teeth was dysfunctional to braces.

ten things to remember while heading to gigs like that:

1. try not to bring a bag if you intend to be a part of the frontal crowd assembly. it takes up a lot of weight and it’s ridiculous to crowd surf with a backpack. i regretted bringing mine. at least it helps carry the t-shirts you bought.
2. have your wallet and phone locked in a strong velcro or zipped pocket. even better, try not to bring it at all. you’ll never know when a nosy pickpocket comes around the corner.
3. never stay still in the middle of a moshpit or wall of death. that’s asking for trouble.
4. be aware of those crowd surfing towards you. avoid being alert and you may end up getting kicked in the face.
5. be careful when you’re standing in front of the stage. reach out for stage divers. your face does NOT make a good landing spot.
6. never go near someone who’s hardcore dancing. you may just end up getting a hardcore medical bill.
7. be part of the crowd and have fun. sing along if you know the words and go crazy. the little things can make a big difference. when you yourself are performing for a gig, you too are gonna want your audience to do so.
8. have respect for those around you and pick them up when they fall. that’s what its all about: respect.
9. when someone hits you by accident, don’t start a fight. people come to this events to headbang, not bang heads.
10. drink plenty of water. you’re gonna need it.

a bit of tech talk: on stage, i noticed the guitar players using ESP guitars. that was memorable since i never saw ESP guitar beholders in malaysia before. and from what i can see, drummer Ben Gordon was using a Pearl Eliminator double pedal with Radical Progressive Action Cams, which i was looking forward to experiment on. wow.

the product of my design.

see that blue banner up there? i made it on photoshop and i just finished, pheww. *relieved*
it's like a welcome mat for my blog visitors. just don't step on it though, haha. that banner took me two days to finish, first day for me to design its main body/concept/foundation and second day to make it come to life. the process was eye-hurting but fun like hell. lots and LOTS of blending, colour balancing, a plethora of hue, saturation, linear dodge, bla bla bla. i may not look that great on it, but what the heck. :P the prototype turned out somehow better than expected, so i did a little more merging, rendering, gradient overlaying, made a beta version of the second prototype and then it's good to go.
i love it. don't you? ngahahaha.

in the meantime, check this out: www.polaryde.blogspot.com. this site is made and run by my good friend Nick to promote the growth of the local music scene. click the link, spread the word and tell your friends to do the same! the more the merrier, aite! :D

the haiyo-logy and pee-six.

let's pick up from where we left, shall we?

Biology: paper 1 and paper 2 weren't so bad, even if they were pretty tricky. paper 3 memang sien. i seriously didn't like this paper. the experiment was based on semi-permeability and size of molecules. i remember reading that chapter last night and forgot the entire procedure the next day. heeee PEPET! x(

Physics: i like physics, but i didn't enjoy the paper. a lot i studied didn't come out. a lot of light and waves came out and i didn't even touch that damn section. blaghh. at least radioactivity came out though, i like-uhh. paper 3 experiment was blarrddyy confusing deii. i had to choose between plasticine and electromagnetic experiment, and so i chose the second. 10 mins before paper finished, i switched to the other one. lucky i finished in time. *sighs in relief* ah well, the best part was paper 1 and 2 were rather easy.

EST left to go. sad part is, one day break in between, so freedom will have to wait. haiyyooorr AMAAAA. x(

everything's done except biology, physics and est. another three more subjects, eight more papers and 12 hours 45 minutes worth of time to go. tedious eh? well, not really. once you go through form 5, you'll get used to it. it was more fun than tension-ish actually.

here's a summary of what i've been hogging through the past few days...

Bahasa Melayu: our very first paper. that's when the tension started, after all it was the first day kan? this one was interesting. for paper 1, i had 30 mins to finish section 1 and i finished it in 45. so means i've got 15 mins less time to finish one of the five questions in section 2. i chose question 4. 15 mins later, i ran out of ideas. SHIT. what the hell can i write about international sports when even beijing 2008 pun i tak tengok? :( 15 mins later after unsuccessful brainstorming, i switched to question 5: budi bahasa. bloody maa faan weh. 45 mins time gone to finish section 2. but i finished it eventually. i just hope the examiner dude can breathe normally reading my handwriting though :) paper 2 wasn't so bad, no complaints. the funniest part was i saved rumusan for the last part, which is something i don't do often.

Bahasa Inggeris: both papers weren't too bad actually. i nearly ran out of time for paper 1 though. happens all the time.

Maths: paper 1 was okay. kind of easy, even if i had little time to make sure i didn't make careless mistakes, and sadly i had a lot of it. :( paper two was very tricky. yikes.

Sejarah: the paper that i at first dreaded the most, seeing how much i despise this subject. paper 1 was seriously tricky, i hated it. eeee, puki betul! i thought paper 2 was gonna be a LOT worse...but nah. it was way better than expected. i never knew i could write so many facts before. i actually answered a questions using two pages, which i usually answered using, ehem, two lines. haha. so you could say during those 150 minutes, i was rather busy. :) my wrists were sore like crap after that.

Agama: this paper wasn't so bad either. surprisingly, paper 1 was easier than paper 2, which is usually the other way round.

Chemistry: another paper that i dreaded at first and didn't at the end. easier than expected. i made a lot of careless mistakes in paper 1 though. and i'm pretty sure the examiner's gonna start giggling at my ballsy experiment.

Add Maths: believe it or not, this was the WORST paper. paper 1 wasn't too bad at all, i was kinda busy during those 2 hours. add maths 2 was VERY TOUGH. seriously! i spent the previous night doing past year questions like a horse on steroids, and the next day when i opened the paper...haiyo. cibet betuii. i didn't even manage to complete the linear programming question, the last one was confusing. i guess i spent more time scratching my head than scratching the paper with my jetstream ball pen. i swear, if it weren't for leon's antics, i would've dozed off kau-kau.

...ok, that didn't seem like a summary. but yeah that's it.

the last three subjects are next week. wish me luck d;
